Before cleaning, the roof should be assessed for fragile sections, cracked tiles, loose components and unsafe access. The method should suit the roof material and condition, while runoff, gutters, gardens and neighbouring property are considered.

A coating depends on a sound, compatible and properly prepared surface. Cleaning alone cannot repair leaks, secure loose ridge tiles or reverse perforating corrosion.
